Brazil’s 2024/25 soybean harvest is nearing completion, with production now estimated at 166 million metric tons, according to consultant Ronald Makuk from Pátria Agribusiness. That’s a drop from the optimistic forecast of 175 million tons made back in December, after severe drought conditions hit key regions in January and February, particularly in Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, and Rio Grande do Sul.
Despite the losses, Brazil continues to strengthen its position as the world’s top soybean producer, surpassing the United States. Projections for the 2025/26 season show Brazil accounting for 40% of global soybean production, while the U.S. share is expected to fall to 29%. Strong yields in states like Mato Grosso, Goiás, Bahia, São Paulo, and Minas Gerais have helped offset some of the weather-related losses elsewhere.
